06-19-2025 Walk/Swim/Ride

Had a decent night's sleep, woke up slowly and got ready for a walk around the neighborhood, leaving the house a little before 6:00. I walked for a little over an hour and then got ready for a swim at the WWC when I got back home. The pool was more crowded on this day, but I had a lane to myself. Swam 2 500s with a 2:00 break in between, and here are the splits: 9:12, 9:11. I felt a little sluggish about 100 yds in, which is fairly common until the blood starts pumping. The water was really warm, don't know if they heated it up for the summer or if the higher temperatures during the day did it. I think I figured out how to pause and restart my pool workout timer, but I still lose a couple of seconds doing it, and the export to Strava doesn't recognize when I pause the workout, which is unfortunate. After the swim, I rode home and made a smoothie, ate a little breakfast. Then I used the smallest of the chain saw files I bought at Harbor Freight and made my first attempt to sharpen the saw chain. I also took the tensioning plate off and cleaned the gunk that had accumulated. Will be interested to see if this improves its cutting ability, which was recently disappointing. Watched a little TV, had pasta for lunch, and then had an early afternoon nap before getting ready for a ride with Paula. We drove in her Tesla to the parking lot by the corner of Paseo del Sur and Camino del Sur. Left from there on a breezy but nice day, heading to San Dieguito Rd. I was riding my Fuji bike, shifting worked well after a small adjustment to the front derailleur. Down the hill and over El Apajo and Via de Santa Fe to VdlV, riding up to Stud Loop in lots of traffic, with road work also going on. Turned onto Stud Loop and took it at a much more leisurely pace than usual, it wasn't so tough under these conditions. We got to Paseo Delicias and crossed over, turning left onto Mimulus, which is a nice winding road generally leading downhill. It got us to Avenida de Acacias, where we turned left and took it into RSF. To La Flecha, turning left there and then right onto Via de Santa Fe, which we took back to VdlV. From there, we retraced our route back to the car.

Avg speed = 14.1 mph (14.3 mph) Total distance = 17.0 mi
Avg power = 110 W. Weighted avg power = 135 W
Total elevation gain = 1160'
Avg heartrate = 105 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 13
Training Load = 50
Intensity = 61%

I didn't get a lot of time to spend on the aero bar drops, still not sure which bike I'll use on Sunday. The ride back up Three Witches was slow, at Paula's pace, I wasn't in a hurry. She drove me back home, where I watched some TV and, after dinner, wet-vacuumed the downstairs floors. That was basically it for the day.
