01-05-2024 Swim
Went for a swim at the WWC when it opened, 2000 yds in 40 min, give or take, following the normal protocol. I think it's the first time that I was able to swim this distance at 2:00 min/100 yds, I pushed pretty hard in the last 10 lengths or so to give me a chance. After the swim, I changed there and then rode over to HP to have coffee with John and Brooke, bringing a carrot nut bread that I had made the previous afternoon. It was pretty tasty, recipe turned out well. Then in the afternoon, I went for a walk for about an hour around the neighborhood. In the evening, we drove over to Poway Park to see Gregory Page at the Templar's Hall. We got there about an hour early for the show, and we didn't have to wait outside long before they let us in. Small venue, maybe 120 people max, and we were in the second row center. Had to wait for the show to start, but the wait was worth it. He was excellent, his handwritten setlist is shown below. He had his nephew (who teaches at Berklee) play a couple of instrumental pieces that were technically very difficult, and he was joined on a number of songs by a keyboardist with whom he is recording his next album soon. A very nice evening, something of a surprise about how good the concert was. It was sponsored by San Diego Folk Heritage, and we will have to be on the lookout for future concert dates.
