01-25-2024 Entry

Fairly quiet day. I went for an hour long walk around Mom's neighborhood, walking every street in this portion of Lake Shadows. Pretty eclectic mix of houses here, and they are dredging the little cove where we used to go water skiing. Then we went to Aldi and Walmart to get groceries for lunch and dinner. The rest of the day was at home, lots of talking. Dinner was stir fry and rice, with chicken for Mom, turned out pretty well. I have started Holly by Stephen King, and I finished Persepolis Rising, latest one of the books I've read in the Expanse series. That latter book involves the Laconians setting up an empire based on advanced technology derived from the protomolecule. The crew of the Rocinante plan and execute a revolt on Medina Station that allows 20 ships to get away to other gate worlds and involves a capture of a Laconian destroyer. King's novel is about a private detective tracking down the whereabouts of a missing young woman, where the villains are an elderly couple of professors who trap victims, put them in a cage in their basement, and eventually kill the and eat their remains in an attempt to retain their youth (or at least forestall the onset of age-related debilitation.  I also think I figured out what we need to get Mom's TV headphones to work, as well as how to fix the TV audio on the sun porch. Today was also Emily's 32nd birthday. She and Caleb had cheese fondue for dinner.
