01-08-2024 Swim

Went for a relatively early hourlong walk and then a swim at the WWC, 2000 yds with standard protocol in 41 min.  Felt slow in the early laps but got into more of a rhythm later.  Right after I got home, I took a shower and then Ann and I headed up to Long Beach to visit the Aquarium of the Pacific for our anniversary.  Drive up was essentially traffic-free.  The aquarium was pretty large, lots of exhibits featuring coral reefs, and the message about the relationship between global warming and the reefs dying off was pretty relentless.  There were many aquarium exhibits, but they got kind of monotonous after a while.  The presentation where scuba divers went into one of the aquariums to feed the fish was pretty good, as was a presentation where the otters were fed.  The two female otters are being prepared to be surrogates for orphaned otter pups, and the presenter did a good job telling the story.  Outside were a couple of pools where you could touch rays, and that was an interesting feeling.  Similar littler exhibit where you could touch moon jellies, and it was a weird sensation.  The lorikeet exhibit was also decent, although the birds looked both colorful and a little ragged in their plumage.  We walked around Rainbow Harbor afterward to kill some time before heading to dinner, and we saw the Queen Mary off in the distance.  Then we drove to Westminster (some slowing in traffic mostly on the 710), Little Saigon, originally to go to a vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant, but it was closed.  So we went to a Pho restaurant, Phoholic, that was next door.  I'm guessing the vegetarian noodle soup I had was in a meat-based broth, but no complaints.  Food was good.  Ann drove home, and we had a little bit of traffic but not much.
