01-23-2024 Ride

This ride turned out okay.  It rained early in the morning, and I was a little worried when I left home that I might run into some weather.  Headed down by the park and over the freeway to BVP, then taking the back way behind the mall to get over to Centre City Pkwy.  Stayed on it all the way through Escondido and then up to Deer Springs Rd before continuing on down the hill past Lawrence Welk Resort.  The downhill was exhilarating, and even after it flattened out, I had a little bit of an overall downhill gradient all the way into Bonsall via Camino del Rey.  Evidence of recent flooding on that road was visible, and I had to watch out for patches of mud in the bike lane.  Headed over to the 76, where I turned right and rode up to Mission Rd, turning left there and starting a 6-mile very gradual (averaging around 1%) uphill into Fallbrook.  I rode through the newer sections and found my way to old town Fallbrook, where I stopped for a short break and a couple of photos before turning around and retracing my route.  This time, the gentle climb back to the freeway wasn't as noticeable as last time, and I didn't have any problem on the little climbs to get me back to near the Lawrence Welk Resort.  I stopped for a short break here before the last significant climb, a 2-miler averaging 3-4%.  Took it nice and easy for the most part, not trying to overdo it.  The ride back into Escondido from there was net downhill and fast, I was also benefiting from a slight tailwind and made good time.  Lots of stoplights going through the city, then it was another fast run across the bridge on the freeway before the last two little climbs, both taking fairly slowly.  Legs felt fine at the end, not as much push in them as I wished but no cramps.
