01-19-2024 Ride

Jhonar had suggested a Friday morning ride the previous day, and several other people showed interest, so I planned a route, starting from the Marco's Pizza parking lot at 8:00.  As normally happens, the others ended up backing out, and it was just me and him on the ride.  We headed down the hill and over the pedestrian bridge to get to BVP, taking it up to Sunset Dr and then riding up to Juniper St.  On the flats, Jhonar was keeping pace with me, and I was trying to maintain a steady but not hard average speed.  We rode over to Idaho Ave, turning right there and having to climb that short, very steep hill.  I had forgotten just how steep it was.  Then we coasted downhill past San Pasqual Valley Rd and had a more gentle little climb to get back over to BVP.  Turned left there and rode over to Valley Pkwy, taking that road to get to El Norte Pkwy.  Jhonar and I traded leads on this section, and he was working to keep our effort level high.  Left on Centre City Pkwy and back through Escondido until we got to Citracado Pkwy, where we turned left and then right onto Escondido Blvd, taking this road down to the trail through Kit Carson Park that brought us to Beethoven Dr.  Back to BVP and then returning via the path to the pedestrian bridge and the climbs up to the park and then up to Duenda Rd.  I kept going to Poblado Rd and rode with Jhonar to his place to drop him off, then continued to Matinal Rd and home through the neighborhood.  Was a nice ride, unplanned, but more miles can't hurt in my preparation for the upcoming century rides.  My Fitbit ran out of battery during the ride, a little more than halfway, so its data are only partial.

Avg speed = 15.9 mph. Total mileage = 26.1 mi
Avg power = 144 W. Weighted avg power = 169 W
Total elevation gain = 1270'
Avg heartrate = 133 bpm

Later in the morning, I rode my scooter over to Best Buy and bought a mini HDMI cable so I can plug a monitor into Emily's laptop for the singalong, then I stopped at Jalapeno's for lunch, a bean and cheese burrito.  It was good, but it made me really gassy in the evening.  Cleaned the refrigerator shelves and bins pretty thoroughly and swept the front porch.
