This was going to be a generally low-exertion day. I got up early and went for an hour+ walk down to Lake Hodges and back. Ann went to a meet-and-greet with Pastor Lisa Petty, and I watched a little TV before going out into the backyard and chopping off a couple of trunks of the bird of paradise plant close to the house. That was more of a chore than I thought it would be. I did a little programming in the early afternoon, working on the code to incorporate Strava segments into my route analysis program. Later in the afternoon, Cathie and Joe came over, and Joe and I rode down to Solana Beach to meet them at Cafe Micheline. It was in the 90s when we got started, and I was a little worried that Joe might have difficulty with the heat and the pace, but he ended up doing pretty well. We rode through the neighborhood and then took RB Rd over to Camino del Sur. Standard route to the coast from there, down to San Dieguito Rd and then down and across the flats to El Camino Real. There was a lot of traffic backed up at the light by Via de la Valle, so we had to weave through it, which was a little sketchy. Then we took that road down to PCH, turning right there and heading over to Lomas Santa Fe, where we were early enough to stop for a very refreshing beer at Pizza Port. We rode up the sharp little climb on Lomas Santa Fe back toward the freeway and pulled into the shopping center on the west side of the freeway, south of Lomas Santa Fe. Got there before Ann and Cathie arrived.

The food at the cafe was quite good, best falafel I have had to date in San Diego, and the salads and dressings in the bowl were tasty.
