08-06-2024 Swim/Ride

This was a busy day. I did sleep in, a little bit, knowing there was a lot going on during the day. Then I rode over to the WWC to meet Avi and go for a swim, focusing on stroke count and power exercises. We ended up swimming about 1800 yds, including the pyramid exercise that we had done before. I rode home and got ready for a bike ride, not entirely sure where I was going to ride. Headed through the neighborhood to RB Rd, staying on it until it turned into Lone Quail Rd, which looped around until I turned right onto 4S Ranch Pkwy, taking it down the hill and then using Dove Creek Rd to get over to Dove Canyon Rd. Then to Carmel Valley Rd, up the two little climbs at a fairly slow pace, then a left onto Black Mountain Rd. I took this past the 56 and turned right onto Park Village Rd. I decided to stay on this road until I hit its dead end at a trailhead, turning around and riding back to Camino del Sur. Up this gradual climb to the 56 bike path, where I turned left and rode down to Carmel Valley Rd. Then I started heading back home, taking this road to Camino del Sur and then home the usual way, other than taking Dove Canyon Rd to get to RB Rd, then to W Bernardo Dr. This route was fairly decent, I saw some new neighborhoods. It was mostly Zone 2 for me. Before I rode, I changed out the battery on my Coospo HR monitor, and it appears to be working again.

Avg speed = 15.5 mph. Total mileage = 31.5 mi
Avg power = 123 W. Weighted avg power = 155 W
Total elevation gain = 1910'
Avg heartrate = 117 bpm (Coospo)

As soon as I got home, I saw the reminder about lunch with Earl, so I had to hustle to cut up the vegetables and prepare the marinade for them and the chicken. I got it all done and in the fridge, then I showered and drove over to Chan Dara Thai Restaurant in Escondido, by Felicita. Lunch was good, a little spicy, and our conversation focused on defining our identities and the role that church is now playing in these definitions. When I got home, I had a little down time until I needed to start cooking, so I read and took a little nap. I also continued working on the code to parse the Fitbit steps data from the download I got from Google. I got it all to work, but the step count was wrong for the days until I figured out that the times listed in the data files are UTC, not Pacific time. So there is still work to do to try and figure out how to calculate the step conversions when I'm not in my home time zone. Then I grilled the vegetables and chicken, it took an hour and a half, including the time to heat the charcoal. The charcoal was particularly hot. Dave came over around 6:00 and the three of us had a nice chat before, during, and after dinner. His mission trip to India sounded interesting, but the weather was really hot and humid. Rachel now goes by Rae and is gender non-binary; Dave seems to be having some difficulty coming to terms with that change. He'll stay with his mom when he moves back to PA next week, at least for a time.
