08-21-2024 Swim

Had a nice wake-up (<>) and then got ready for a quick swim at the WWC. Swam for 1000 yds, shared a lane with the old guy in the ball cap who is a morning regular there. Finished in a little over 20 minutes, then rode home to be around for when the guy from Home Depot came to measure the garage side door. While I was in the garage, I worked on the screen for the window in our bedroom. Took out the recently installed mesh and worked to make the screen dimensions closer to what they were before it got bent out of shape. Then I installed a new screen mesh, went a little quicker but the cutting was slower. It's a better fit now, will leave it as it is. I had a little down time before I needed to get ready for my volunteer shift. Ann came back from the podiatrist with the bad news that she has arthritis in her feet, and it's likely not going to get better. Her mom also had pretty severe arthritis, so this is depressing. The volunteer shift at the hospital was quite busy. I helped Linda move a patient at end-of-life up to a hospital room, and that was also sobering. She had a DNR in place and was suffering a heart attack. She definitely reminded me of my mother and the inevitable time that will come when Mom is at the same life stage. I also helped Lindsey with a patient who had had an apparent stroke and was on a ventilator. This was sobering too. After the shift I rode home and had a little time before we drove over to meet Kay and Earl by Cocina del Charro. Kay drove us over to an Italian food restaurant in Vista, food was pretty good. When she was backing the car up in the parking lot after dinner, she ran her rear bumper into a wall and caused some damage to the car, but they both took it pretty well. We drove over to Moonlight Amphitheater to see Beautiful, the musical about Carole King's early life. It was a pretty good story, highly dramatized. She and Gerry Goffin sure wrote a lot of big hits. They were close friends with another songwriting duo, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and that pair had a number of big hits as well. Performances were pretty good, the actress who played Carole King was a little too theatrical in her singing for me, and the scenes with actors playing musicians on stage were personally hilarious.
