I got up after Ann had woken up (rare) and got dressed to go for a run. Down by the park and around twice before running back. I was at tempo pace and had a couple of fast miles in a row before slowing down on the climb back up to the house. Still, I was pleased with my run. Calf was a little achy at the end but not a problem.

When I got home, I had a little second breakfast and then did some blog updating before turning the water off and taking the bathtub faucet valve out to inspect it. I tried cleaning it and blowing out any debris, soaking it in hot water, but it still leaked when I reinstalled it. So I went to get a replacement cartridge in Escondido, ending up at Reece Plumbing Supply on Auto Pkwy. Scotty, one of the employees, recommended that I purge the water lines before installing the new cartridge, so when I got home I tried it out after running cold water through the pipes, then installing the old cartridge. It still leaked, so I turned the water on and decided to wait for the plumber from Zech Plumbing to replace the water heater before repeating these steps. He showed up around noon and got to work, asking good questions and not trying to upsell anything to us. He finished the installation, and then I tried out the new cartridge. On the first try, it kept leaking, and when I took it out I discovered that one of the O-rings from the old cartridge was stuck inside the brass enclosure. After removing it and putting everything back together, I tried it again, and it didn't leak. Success! I put it all back together, also had some time to reposition the aero bars on my old bike before I got ready for my afternoon ride with Blair. Over to HP the original, shortest way, meeting him in the back parking lot. We then headed over to Camino del Norte and took it up to Carmel Mountain Rd, turning right there and then right again onto Rancho Carmel Dr. We stayed on this road until it turned into Sabre Springs Pkwy, taking it to its end and turning right on Springhurst Dr to ride up the little climb to Springbrook Dr and then to Scripps-Poway Pkwy. We then rode down to Pomerado Rd and turned left there, taking it to Metate Ln and turning right. All this time I was riding at Blair's pace, legs were feeling it from the previous day and the earlier run. We rode up to Community Rd and turned left to get back to Poway Rd, where we turned left again and rode to Pomerado Rd. A right turn there and a stretch of road that I don't remember much about, taking us to Twin Peaks Rd, where we turned left and rode back to HP the normal way from there. I got out in front of Blair a little bit on these climbs but not too much. It was dusky when we got back to the parking lot, and I rode home the normal way from there.

Ann was gone to bunko by the time I got home, so I heated up leftovers for dinner and watched just a little bit of football before tackling all the dishes in the kitchen. Then I had a shower and read in bed for the evening.
