10-17-2024 Swim/Ride

Woke up nicely (<>) and got ready to head over to the WWC for a swim when it opened. I brewed some coffee and took it with me. Swam for only 1000 yds in a little over 20 minutes, then I went for a short walk around the local neighborhood before heading over to HP for coffee with John and Brooke. She is remodeling a bathroom and sounds like she really knows her way around home repair and remodeling. I was only back home for a short while before heading over to Best Pizza & Brew to meet up with some HP folks for lunch. Blair, James, Dan, and Kyle were there, along with Kyle's girlfriend and some of the HP LEP techs. It was a nice little lunch, I talked basketball with them quite a bit and just a little about the HP site move. Ann was gone when I got home, so I took a short break before going for a bike ride. Down by the park and then over to Highland Valley Rd, where I benefited from a tailwind on the way out and up the first climb. Curiously, the Strava segment covering this first climb appears to have vanished from Strava, not sure what happened there. I did set a PR (8:19, 250 W, 146 bpm) on the Strava segment that covers the first climb and goes until the Bandy Canyon Rd intersection, probably because I didn't stop at the top of the climb and kept riding. I kept going up to Bandy Canyon Rd and turned left there, riding around the bend and taking the private road up to its end before turning around and retracing my route home.

Avg speed = 16.8 mph. Total mileage = 13.3 mi
Avg power = 170 W. Weighted avg power = 202 W
Total elevation gain = 990'
Avg heartrate = 126 bpm (Coospo)

When I got home, I reconnected my SRAM derailleur to my Wahoo Elemnt, it had probably gotten disconnected on the ride when I switched out my rear derailleur battery. I also looked into how to patch a large section of drywall, since there is a hole cut into the drywall in the front bedroom closet that needs to be closed up. Also took a look at my cycling mileage to date this year, I still have a shot at hitting 8000 miles but it's going to involve a couple of big months in November and December. In the evening, we drove down to Old Town, had drinks, and then attended The Rocky Horror Show at the Cygnet Theatre in Old Town. It was really good, the lead character was excellent and the other characters were decent to good. Lots of familiar music in a campy setting, and the audience was into it, which made the experience more enjoyable.
