10-06-2024 Ride

Had to get up early to drive over to the vineyards at The Succulent Cellar, where I had volunteered to help pick grapes. It was foggy until I climbed above the marine layer while driving up Highland Valley Rd. Got there around 6:50, and I was picking grapes by about 7:05. Morning was generally cool, and the grape picking went pretty smoothly and quickly. We finished around 10:00, and Michelle made mimosas for the pickers. It was heating up by then, so I was glad we stopped. Drove back to the PB Airbnb, had a nap, then in the afternoon Ann and I walked to the bay and then over to PB Ice Cream Co on Grand Ave. It was tasty. We then walked to the beach and headed down the sidewalk for a bit before turning in and walking back to the bayside. Then it was back to the Airbnb and a short break, watching a little football, before I did an afternoon ride. I rode over to Pacific Beach Dr and took it to Mission Bay, where the streets are really good for riding in the aero position. I had adjusted my aero bars, they are currently quite low, but my back seemed to handle it well. Took park roads over to Fiesta Island, where I did one full loop and one short loop. The wind was brisk, which slowed me up while riding into it. But riding with the wind at my back was exhilarating. After that, I rode over to Belmont Park, then turned around and rode along some other roads until finally finding Ingraham St and getting back to the starting point. I'm feeling fairly comfortable in the aero drops, except in turns, when I put at least one hand on the handlebars.
