10-25-2024 Run

Got up while Ann was still asleep and had some breakfast. Then I read in bed for a little bit (<>) before going out for a shorter run (not a lot of time) around the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

Avg pace = 8:08/mi
Total distance = 2.39 mi
Elapsed running time = 19:29

Had a shower and some coffee when I got back, before we walked over to Eastern Market and took the Metro down to the National Mall. We walked over to the National Monument and waited until our tour slot at 11:00. The visit was concise, up to the top for a short walk around the viewing area, a quick look at the information on the monument, then back down. We were done in <40 minutes. Walked over for a quick look at the entertainment wing in the Museum of American History (Archie Bunker's chair, Dorothy's ruby slippers, etc.), then we headed to the Museum of African American History. This is a very information-dense museum, particularly on the floors explaining the origins of slavery and the time up to Reconstruction. We ate lunch in the cafeteria, it was decent but, as expected, a little pricey. Then we did a shorter walk-through of the cultural and artistic sections, which had some interesting areas. Ann was ready to be done by then and I wasn't too far behind her. So we left and took the Metro back to Eastern Market area, stopping to get some more groceries from Trader Joe’s. Then we walked back to the flat and had a quiet evening.
