10-29-2024 Run

Travel day, but it was a busy one before our flight. I went for a run to get some steps in and have a workout. I ran over to Lincoln Park and then ran around it 6 times, it's a little less than 0.5 miles around. I ran a pretty good pace around the park, it was fairly unobstructed and I didn't have to stop and wait for lights. Finished my third mile in just over 7:00, which is fast for me. Then I ran back to the flat at a slightly lower pace since it was through the neighborhood and harder to run consistently.

Avg pace = 7:36/mi
Total distance = 3.18 mi
Elapsed running time = 24:15

We had rice and beefless bulgogi for breakfast, then cleaned up the flat before we left around 11:00, Sherry was a really good host, maybe the best one we've had. We walked over to Eastern Market, then took the Metro out to the expanded air & space museum by Dulles Airport. This was a cool museum, lots of airplanes and space stuff, including some famous items. I was really into it, Ann not so much. We walked together a little bit, then she sat down and I walked through it a little more before we ate a light lunch at the onsite Shake Shack. I walked through some of the commercial aviation wing. Highlights included the space shuttle Discovery, the Enola Gay, a WWII German rocket plane, the Gossamer Albatross, and the plane that Jenna Yeager and Dick Rutan flew nonstop around the world. There were a lot of other cool military planes as well. Then we headed over to the bus stop to catch the bus to the airport. It was a much longer ride than I thought, then we had a little bit of an adventure in walking from the bus stop to the departures area. But we made it in good time. I had a middle seat because we were among the last to board and I didn't want to be in the back of the plane. Flew to Denver, I continued arranging photos on my phone, still more to do there. A longer layover in Denver than I would have hoped, but the flight back to San Diego was less crowded and we sat together in an exit row. Amazingly (I don't think this has ever happened before), the SDAP shuttle was waiting at the shuttle stop for us when we got out there, so we were home less than 45 minutes after getting off the plane.
