I got a little behind on my blogging, so I'm catching up now. Woke up on this morning (<!>) and went for a swim at the WWC. Not too many people right at the start, but it filled up, then emptied, over the course of my swim. I ended up swimming 2550 yds, this longer distance for the first time in quite a while. Finished in right around 50 minutes. The last 500 yds I did using the swim snorkel, probably won't be using it again any time soon. It's just not conducive to fast turns, it carries a lot of drag. Because I can't swim underwater, I ended up back to a 24 count stroke for the length of the pool. After the swim, I rode home and changed, then headed over to HP for coffee break with Brooke and John. They both had nice Thanksgiving celebrations, John, Vivian, and Jayden went back to PA the week before and while there had a wedding celebration with his family and friends. Got home from there, and Ann and I ran some errands together. We first went to Palomar Hospital in Escondido and spent some of the volunteer bucks I've accumulated this past year. Got some Christmas gifts as well as exchange gifts for the Bisikleta holiday party. We then drove down (through surface streets) to Carlsbad and got library cards there, since that branch has a Mango Language software license as well as a seed bank for use in our garden. While down there, we drove to Living Spaces and looked at their coffee tables. Several nice designs, really inexpensive and mostly cheap. There was one design that had some promise, so it's in the mix. Headed back home after that, and I got ready to ride my bike back to HP to meet Paula Dragu for a discussion about starting up a group of HP-affiliated cyclists for monthly rides. I will make the connection with the HP retirees as well as some ex-HP cyclists I know. I took the long way to the site, riding down the hill and then up W Bernardo Dr to RB Rd, turning right there and riding up the hill, then the extended route through the 4S Ranch neighborhood to get to Camino del Sur. I turned left and started heading to the site via Camino del Norte and Bernardo Center Dr. Went in the back way and then rode around the campus to get to the patio by the main site cafe. Paula showed up a little bit later, and we chatted for a while about future HP- connected cycling activities. Blair joined us around 3:15 and told her the news about his new job and relocation, which surprised and saddened her somewhat. Then the three of us went for a short bike ride. It was late afternoon and starting to cool down, particularly in the shade. We rode all the way down the hill and past the lake, then climbed Pomerado Dr back up to Twin Peaks Rd, where we turned left and climbed a little more. Back to the site the normal way from there, turning on W Bernardo Dr to get Paula back to her car in time for her to drive and pick up her daughter for volleyball practice. I rode home the normal way, in the dusk.
