12-06-2024 Entry

Went for a walk in the morning over to the WWC. I had planned on bringing my basketball, but the air needle broke as I was trying to fill it up, so I'll need to get a new one. I borrowed a basketball from Angela at the WWC and shot some hoops in the gym for about 40 minutes or so. Very rusty with my shot, as expected. I noodled around the house for the rest of the morning and early afternoon, don't remember if I got much done other than fixing a drip sprinkler line leak in the back yard. Ann and I did make the egg nog base and the red lentils for the party, since we knew that Saturday was going to be a busy day. In the mid-afternoon, we headed over to Karl Strauss in 4S Ranch to meet Blair and some HP folks (James, Rachel, Rima, Qin, Britt, Alberto, Kyle, Dan) for a farewell get-together for him. Stayed for about a half hour, then we drove downtown to park by San Diego City College and take the shuttle over to December Nights. Parking and shuttle were smooth, and it wasn't too crowded when we walked into the park. Headed over to the International House area, saw Kamal at the Palestinian food booth, then went through the Israel and Palestine houses before coming back and getting some food. We took it over to Spreckels Pavilion and ate while they lit the tree and then the Marine Corps jazz ensemble came on. Their set was short and kinda funny. We walked around for a bit after that, headed over to the new Botanical Building but the line to get in was long, so we kept walking. I stayed around this area to catch a concert by Talking Threads, a Talking Heads tribute band, while Ann went back to Spreckels to watch the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus. Both of us enjoyed our shows, and Ann caught the last of the concert I watched. Then we walked fairly quickly through the Fleet Science Center and headed back to the concert venue to catch a show by Fast Times, an 80s tribute band. They were loud and not that great, so we left after 5-7 songs. Headed back toward the shuttle stop after that, where the line was quite long, and I convinced Ann to walk back to the car instead of waiting in line. It took a little longer than I thought it would, but the evening was nice and it was mostly downhill. An uneventful drive home, in bed a little after 11:00.
