We woke up early and got all packed up for the drive to Irvine. I took my bike as well, we were on the road a little after 6:30. We drove up to Mission Viejo and stopped for breakfast at a little café. It was a little too frou-frou for me, but my crepe was okay, maybe too much Nutella. Got to Pat's just after 8:30, and he and I were riding just after 9:00. I followed his lead on the route, didn't really know where we were or where we were going. Mostly gradual climbing out to mile 15, then a descent before we did another gradual climb up Santiago Canyon. We turned around about 2 miles in and rode a long gradual descent, seemed like it went on forever. We also had a stretch on a trail by a paved river bed that wasn't so great for riding. A little climb back up to his place, and we were done by 12:15 or so. Felt good at the end, legs were solid throughout the ride but there were times when I got tired for sustained high output. I forgot to wear my heartrate monitor, but it was a generally moderate workout, not as hard as I would have ridden solo, I think.

Ann showed up shortly after, and we went to a Chinese food place for lunch after showering. Food was pretty good. Back to Pat's, we hung out for a bit and then took Cooper for a walk. Had dinner at this upscale (for us) place in Irvine, Solstice. It was okay, just one vegetarian entrée. We drove back after getting some gas, and around 9:15 I headed to Venice Beach to meet Oren Perets, who was in the LA area on business travel. I got there around 10:20, drove around and found a place to park on the street while I waited for him to show up. He got stuck at the Hertz car rental office and wasn't on the road until about 11:20. We met up shortly before midnight, then walked along the deserted boardwalk, talking about his new job and his family. Got back to the car a little after 1:00AM, and the drive back to Pat's house was a chore. I was tired, and it was periodically quite foggy. I made it back, was glad to get that done.
