03-09-2025 Run/Walk

Woke up, Ann was coughing quite a bit in the night. I went for a run, trying to find a nice river path, but no success. It seems we are in the heart of the city, no large parks nearby that I could see on a map. I ran up to where there is a river channel, ran along it looking for a path but not finding one, so I turned around and ran north along city streets to a larger river. Crossed over the river on a pedestrian walkway, but there wasn't a path on that side either. Frustrating. So I ran along side streets, not much traffic, out to about 2 miles before heading around a city block and coming back. Legs felt fine, it was hard to keep up a faster pace because of the stopping and starting at intersections.

Avg pace = 8:37/mi
Total distance = 4.00 mi
Elapsed moving time = 34:31
Avg heartrate = 133 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 15

Got back and had some toast for breakfast. Ann and I then took the subway over to Osaka Castle Park. It was a longish walk from the subway station, but it was a nice cleat day for a change. The park square was busy with locals and tourists, and the castle was uncomfortably crowded. The site had historical significance, but the castle itself was built in the early 20th century. Inside the castle were a bunch of exhibits about several warring factions, the Tokugawa shogunate against the Torotomi clan, and The Summer War. Not very interesting to either of us, so we walked quickly up to the top floor for the city views. Views were nice, but they basically showed a large city, not much of interest to me. After coming back down, we sat by the castle, saw a guy with a live owl walk up and take its picture with the castle in the background. As we walked through the square, we saw a couple with a dachshund in a kimono, on a wooden stand, taking its picture with the castle in the background. Then they packed up their stuff into a stroller and took off. Crazy! We walked to the nearby gardens, but there wasn't much to see, so we skipped going in. Back to the subway entrance, where I tried to find a nearby restaurant, without success. Couldn't get data to judge distance and availability of vegetarian options. We headed back to the Airbnb, but Ann was coughing and it was that wet coughing sound. I got concerned about sitting across from her over lunch, so we walked to the near store and got food for lunch and dinner. It was a very quiet rest of the day and evening. I finished watching the movie Tenet and finished The Sympathizer as well.
