03-26-2025 Ride/Hike

Woke up after an okay night's sleep, got ready for a bike ride with John from home. Also put some oil in the car. Was feeling okay, not so much congestion and only occasional coughs, not sustained. We left a little after 7:30, down by the park and over the freeway to BVP, taking it up to Sunset Dr. There was a fair amount of traffic to contend with, and the roads were damp, with some mist in the air. We headed up to Juniper St and took it into town, turning left on Grand Ave and then right on Kalmia St to get to Valley Pkwy. Over to Broadway, which we took north to Jesmond Dene Rd. Around this point, the mist started to get a little more heavy. It never actually rained, but there were times when it felt like we were riding in rainy conditions. Up Jesmond Dene Rd to get to Centre City Pkwy, taking it up to Deer Springs Rd. At this point, I made the decision not to go down that hill in dicey road conditions, instead turning left onto Mesa Rock Rd and following it south along the freeway back to Centre City Pkwy. We then rode up to Nutmeg St, turning right there and using it to get to Country Club Ln. Right turn there, then through that neighborhood over to El Norte Pkwy, where we took another right. Rode until the road turned into Borden Rd, then followed it until turning left on Vineyard Rd. Over to Woodward St, turning left there and riding to Mission Rd. Streets were wet and dirty at this point and stayed that way all the way into Escondido. We took the route to Valley Pkwy via Tulip St, then headed to Quince St for a right turn there. Rode up to 13th Ave and then used it to get back to Centre City Pkwy. From there, it was the usual way back home across the freeway, and the roads got progressively drier as we rode from this point. John held up pretty well on this 32-mile ride, which is a good sign for future rides together.

Avg speed = 15.4 mph (15.5 mph). Total mileage = 32.7 mi
Avg power = 133 W. Weighted avg power = 149 W
Total elevation gain = 1450' (1800')
Avg heartrate = 122 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 40 (41)
Training Load = 112
Intensity = 68%

I made smoothies using some items I had bought in an early-morning store run, they were tasty. After John left, I had the house to myself for a bit, so I caught up on blogging. Then I talked to Ben at length about recent issues with Ross taking control of a decision relating to the disposition of the boat dock. Had some lunch, then Ben called again with news of action from Ross's apparent command decision to move forward with completely removing the boat dock, which got Mom really upset, rightfully so. This is a mess that is going to have repercussions and that will leave ill feeling among the five of us. So, not good at all.
