03-29-2025 Ride

Had a rough night, a lot of coughing. I got up and watched TV for a while, woke up early and did the dishes. Then I rode over to the parking lot by Marco's, our starting point for the day. We had a big group on this day: Arnold, Perse, Andy, Rob, Gio, Nel, Jhonar, Charlie, Aaron, Fritz, Zac, and Joey. Was in the 50s at the start good riding weather for me. We headed down by the park and over the pedestrian bridge to BVP. Then we rode up to Sunset Dr, saw that the road was clear beyond, and kept going. Andy was slow, so I rode with him during this stretch. We rode up to Valley Pkwy and turned right, taking it up to El Norte Pkwy. We waited for the others at the turn, but Andy and Gio had turned left on Valley Pkwy. Fritz went back to find them, and we ended up re-gathering everybody at Citrus Ave and El Norte Pkwy. From there, we rode down to Broadway and then took it up to Jesmond Dene Rd. On the way Rob changed his derailleur batteries. I rode with Andy up the first little climbs, then stopped to help Rob change out his shifter batteries before we made the last climb. Over to the Circle K, where we took a break before continuing. Then it was down Deer Springs Rd to Twin Oaks Valley Rd and over to Buena Creek Rd. Up this little climb and then down the nice descent over to Santa Fe Ave. Several riders took the Inland Rail Trail, while the rest of us rode to Mission Rd and met up with them there. We then rode into Escondido, I rode near the back. Returned to the parking lot via Centre City Pkwy and then the road to get to the back side of the mall. Across the pedestrian bridge and up W Bernardo Dr. Aaron sped away, and I pushed hard to catch up with Fritz, who was also going hard. I passed him too and rode back to the parking lot. We all gathered up, and some of us stayed for pizza and beer at Marco's. I had a soda and hung out, talking mostly to Rob and Gideon. Eric stopped by and we made a date for lunch on the 13th. Then I rode home from there. Felt decent on this ride, which was really flat for this distance.

I had a quiet afternoon. Did some research into whether I could program access to the security cameras. Initial results not promising. I also talked to Ben and, later, Mom. She was in pretty good spirits, railed a little bit about recent events but didn't get too stirred up. Ate dinner and had a quiet evening, watching TV.
