Slept pretty well after a busy Christmas day (<>). It was a fairly quiet morning, and Ann suggested going down to Hamitbach in Mission Valley for lunch. I looked at where it was and decided to ride down there to meet her. Had to scramble a bit to get ready, so I could be down there by noon. Rode my Canyon, as the weather looked decent. Through the neighborhood to RB Rd, then over to Camino San Bernardo, taking it over to Dove Canyon Rd and then down to Carmel Valley Rd. Right turn there, and slowly up the climbs to get to Black Mountain Rd. I took this road all the way into and through Mira Mesa, until it turned into Kearny Villa Rd. It took me about 30 minutes to ride the first seven miles, I was perhaps a little faster on the second seven miles but hoping that the rest of the ride would be flat to downhill. Indeed it was, starting just past Miramar Rd. I felt like I was a little behind schedule for arriving ahead of time, so I pushed a little harder from here on. Seemed like I had a little bit of a headwind working against me as I rode south on this day. Stayed on Kearny Villa Rd at the turn and took it to Aero Dr, where I turned left and rode up to Sandrock Rd, turning right there and, shortly after, taking another right on Murray Ridge Rd. Rode through the Serra Mesa neighborhood until I turned onto Mission Center Rd. I really like this downhill into Mission Valley, no brakes needed if you are bold enough. Thankfully, the shopping center where the restaurant was located was just off this road, so I rode into the parking lot and found it. Had a couple of minutes until Ann showed up. Average heartrate for this ride was higher than I would have guessed, I put in a bigger effort than I thought.
Avg speed = 16.4 mph. Total mileage = 23.0 mi
Avg power = 163 W. Weighted avg power = 188 W
Total elevation gain = 1160'
Avg heartrate = 127 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 41
Training Load = 110
Intensity = 85%
We both got lunch plates, and it was a lot of food. The salads were decent, could have used a little more flavor in the dressings. Hummus wasn't anything to exclaim about, and the falafel was average. Pita was very good but skimpy in the portions. The best thing about the restaurant was the vibe, which was very Israeli. Lots of people speaking Hebrew, crowding around, visiting with the people behind the counter. It was a good experience (pricey for what we got), but we probably won't go there again by ourselves. We drove home after that, and the rest of the day was quiet, not much done. I watched some TV, and in the evening I put some work into correcting the transcription of my cycling diary. I came across a large section where the transcription was quite poor, so I had Gemini do it again, then pasted that better version into the digital version and corrected it. That was it for the day.
