12-25-2025 Ride

Woke up late, for me, due to the late night at church on Christmas Eve. I figured Ann would sleep in late, and the weather looked like it was clearing up from a foggy early morning. So I got ready for a casual outdoor ride instead of riding on the trainer. Wasn't sure about whether I would run into weather, so I wore my rain jacket and rode my Fuji. Headed through the neighborhood to RB Rd and then out to San Dieguito Rd. Not pushing the pace on this ride. I rode down the hill and across the flats to ECR. Over to VdlV and toward the coast. I turned at Jimmy Durante Blvd and took the shortcut into Del Mar. Rode through town and stopped for a picture of the ocean before starting to head back on Carmel Valley Rd. To the 56 bike path, taking it slowly back to CdS. I wasn't looking forward to the climbs on the way back. Rode to Paseo del Sur (PdS) and turned there, taking it to Potomac Ridge Rd, over to Nighthawk Ln, then Del Sur Ridge Rd to Lone Quail Rd. Turned on Camino del Norte and then followed the new normal way home from there. It was a good distance, but my legs just didn't have any drive in them on this day.

Avg speed = 15.6 mph. Total mileage = 37.6 mi
Avg power = 126 W (estimated, power meter pedals didn't work)
Total elevation gain = 2020'
Avg heartrate = 119 BP (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 47

Had some cinnamon rolls when I got back home, Ann was a real dear and had cleaned up the kitchen from her morning activities. In fact, this was a trend. She, Emily, and Caleb all pitched in with cleaning the kitchen throughout the day, which was perhaps the best Christmas present for me. Was a fairly quiet early afternoon. I started weeding the gravel path in the front yard, one of my least favorite yard chores. Lots more to do there. Talked to Mom for a short while just before Emily and Caleb came over, she enjoyed the lunch with the brothers and selected others on Tuesday. Seemed like she was in a good mood. Had a nice visit with Emily and Caleb when they showed up at 3:00. We chatted for a while, then opened stockings, which went okay. They made cheese fondue, Emily had baked fresh bread and brought it, along with a bunch of other stuff to dip into the cheese. It was good. The cheese was just a little thick, but it had a very good sharp cheddar flavor. We opened the gifts under the tree after dinner, again was okay, not my scene since we are all adults with our own money to buy what we want. Ann's lemon pie was delicious, a real treat. We had some of the evening to relax after they left, which was nice.
