10-03-2025 Run/Swim

Slept fairly well, did wake up during the night but got back to sleep (<!>). Did some work on the computer (looking for a replacement for my big chainring on the Fuji), and Ann came in asking if I wanted to go the the rummage sale at San Dieguito UMC. So, instead of going for a swim, I went for a run down to the park, around twice, and back, to get to 5k. I ran back up to Aguacate Way and then walked home from there. Had negative splits for the first three miles, pushed my pace on the last mile (7:10) and let up just a little after that. When I had woken up, my right calf was bothering me still (it had started hurting the previous afternoon), so I was concerned that it would affect my running pace or I would feel discomfort. But it was fine, no concerns or pain while running.

Avg pace = 7:31/mi
Total distance = 3.17 mi
Elapsed moving time = 23:52
Avg heartrate = 138 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 18

Had time for a quick phone call with Ross to talk about home medical alert system options, then I took and shower and Ann drove us over to the church. I was able to get a wetsuit, not really a tri suit, for $20, which is a pretty good deal for something like that. Not much else to choose from, although I considered buying an HP workstation without a HD for $20 but passed on it. We stopped at a bagel place in Encinitas to get a couple of bagels, then Ann drove us home. I took a little break when we got home, put in requests at Carmax and Car Czar for quotes to buy the Kia Sportage. Not fully sure we will sell it, but I need to know what we can get for it. Then I went out into the garage and did a thorough assessment of the wear on the current chains I'm using. Here's what I found:
    Canyon
Double master link SRAM chain #1                 0.25 (currently on bike)
        SRAM chain #2                                                 <0.25
    Fuji
Shimano Ultegra CN-6701 chain                      ~0.37 (currently on bike)
Backup Shimano Dura Ace CN-7801 chain     0.25

Ann left for Mah Jongg, so I went over to the WWC for a short swim. Swam 1000 yds, first 500 using three strokes/breath and the second 500 using four. Here are the times: 9:19, 9:34. Total time from video analysis was 18:53. The first 500 was the fastest I've swum that distance in quite a while, although it didn't feel particularly fast. My stroke count was higher, and my pull distance was lower, indicating that I'm not as efficient in transferring power. But I'm also guessing the previous day's drills helped out. Still need lots more pool work, maybe a day in the ocean as well before next Sunday.

Avg pace = 1:53/100 yds (Zepp)
Total distance = 1000 yds
Elapsed moving time = 18:53 (Video)
Avg heartrate = 144 bpm (Zepp)
Relative Effort =  21
SWOLF = 38
Avg stroke rate = 23 bpm
Avg pull distance = 2.11 yds

Got back from the WWC and had a light lunch of pretzels and cheese & crackers while watching an episode of The Last of Us. The rest of the day and evening was quiet, watched the last two episodes of the second season of Foundation in preparation for watching the third season. Read in the evening, and that was the day.
