When I got home, I had a light breakfast, no coffee because of the upcoming swim. We left the house around 10:00 to head down to Mission Bay, stopped to get some gas at the AM-PM. No traffic on the way down, it stayed overcast, warmed up a little bit. We parked at Ventura Cove, I got Ann's bike out of the car (it was a real bitch getting both bikes in the car at home) and put air in the tires, then I put my rummage sale wetsuit on. It's a tight fit, heavier than the tri wetsuit that Gideon has lent me. Ann went riding while I got in the water and ended up doing seven lengths of the buoys. The wetsuit did a good job of keeping me warm, but it takes up water and is a tight fit around the shoulders. Was very buoyant, I didn't really need to kick much at all while swimming. I did okay, not great, at sighting the buoys, actually lost sight of them due to my goggles fogging up around one of the turns, so that slowed me down by about 10 seconds. This was a very different kind of swimming, many more strokes/minute and a significantly shorter pull distance. For the most part, I was breathing every two strokes, so it was like an elongated sprint, which is probably similar to what I'll be doing on Sunday. The shorter pull distance was due in part to my limited shoulder mobility, but I was gliding through the water more easily as well.

I got a little sidetracked swimming back to the shore after the workout, so I was getting stuff from the car when Ann came back. Showered off the first layer of salt and changed, then Ann and I rode over to the boardwalk in Mission Beach and rode up to San Jose St, turning there to get to Mission Baja Tacos, where we had lunch. No horchata this time, and my breakfast burrito wasn't that great, kinda flavorless until I put some of the (really) hot sauce on it. Maybe we'll try a different taco place next time we come down. After lunch, we headed back to the boardwalk and rode up into Pacific Beach, to Diamond St, before turning around and riding back to the car, this time taking the path under the bridge to get back to Ventura Cove.

Putting the bikes in the car went a little more smoothly, with Ann's help this time, then we drove home (stopping at the library to pick up a State Park pass) early enough to avoid afternoon traffic. It was a quiet rest of the day and evening.
