Slept pretty well, woke up about 5:45 after some vivid early morning dreams. Got up and got ready for a bike ride. Rode my Fuji through the neighborhood to Matinal Rd and took it to W Bernardo Dr. Normal way to John's place from there, finding opportunities to ride in aero position both for speed and practice. I had left the house a little late after doing most of the dishes, so I didn't dawdle. Near his place I noticed that my power meter pedals still weren't registering on my Wahoo. When I got to his house, I tried, without success, to reinitialize the sensors. Gave up and rode without power output on this ride. Jayden was out but not Vivian. I had brought pumpkin bread for them. John and I headed up to Scripps-Poway Pkwy and turned right, again I was looking for places to be in aero position, even on shallow climbs. Waited for John just after the summit, then we rode down to Mercy Rd together, and over to Black Mountain Rd. On this ride, for the most part, I rode at my pace and waited periodically for John to catch up. Took this road to Kearney Villa Rd and then to Ruffin Rd. I had a pretty good stretch on the flats by MCAS Miramar, second-fastest time for me there. But somewhere on that stretch 8 hit a crack in the road, and this is likely where I caused a slow leak in my rear tire. We stayed on Ruffin Rd until Balboa Ave, where we turned right and rode back to Kearney Villa Rd, turning right again and starting to head back. I had another decent stretch by the MCAS going back but was a minute slower than my fastest time. Waited for John at the turn to head up Pomerado Rd. Tried to keep the pace up on this gradual climb, but my legs were starting to tire, so it wasn't super fast. Back to his house the normal way from there, where Vivian had made smoothies for us and came out a little later to chat. My ride home from there, after the break, was fairly fast, had the benefit at times of a tailwind. Home via RB Rd to W Bernardo Dr. This was a bigger workout than usual. My right glute had been tender the previous day, and it was a little sore at the start of the ride. But it loosened up okay and wasn't a problem.

Didn't have a lot of time after I got home. I had shaved earlier, so I took a shower and then called Bay Alarm Medical to set Mom up with a medical alert system. That took a little longer than expected, and I was late leaving for my volunteer shift. Took a burger and ate it at the hospital with fries, a Pepsi, and a Klondike bar. Had to rush at the end to finish before I started my shift. It was again busy at the start and was generally busier than usual. Had to help a guy eat his lunch (he'd broken his right wrist), but he was nice to talk to and it went smoothly. I got out of there just a little bit past time, then hurried home to change and drive with Ann to Kit Carson Park to meet Emily and Caleb for a short hike. We all started together, but Caleb and I got out ahead and ended up talking about fitness and beginning the discussion of doing a 5k over Thanksgiving weekend. Home after the hike around the park, had dinner and watched an episode of Foundation before turning in for the night.
