10-29-2025 Ride

Had a pretty good night's sleep, even though I'd had a fair amount of caffeine the previous day. Seemed like I was rushed in my preparation, even though there was enough time. Got out to the garage and saw that the rear tire on my Canyon was flat, so I switched some gear to my Fuji and rode it instead. I was late getting started and not feeling particularly strong. Took the normal way there, and at W Bernardo Dr I tweaked something in my neck on the left side. That bothered me periodically throughout the ride, not sure what I did. I was late getting to his house, and we didn't wait long before starting the ride. Up to the top of Angelique St, turning right there on Cypress Canyon Rd and riding down to Blue Cypress Dr, where we took a left and rode a climb up to Spring Canyon Rd. On this ride, for the most part, I rode behind John at his pace, since he was still recovering from the flu. Right on Spring Canyon Rd and then a left onto Sunset Ridge Dr. This took us to Scripps Lake Dr, where we took another right and rode by Lake Miramar before dropping down to Scripps Ranch Blvd. We took that down to Carroll Canyon Rd and then turned left onto Businesspark Ave. Left on Willow Creek Rd, which took us down to Pomerado Rd. We climbed back up to the top, it's not usual that we do this climb early in a ride. I rode at John's pace, and we then descended on Pomerado Rd, staying on it until turning right onto Ted Williams Pkwy to get up to Twin Peaks Rd. We took that to Community Rd, which was a nice run after turning right to get to Metate Ln. Another right turn on that road, taking it back to Pomerado Rd and turning left there. Then it was back to John's house via the Scripps-Poway Pkwy route. We had delicious smoothies that Vivian made and got caught up a little bit on what's going on in their lives. My ride back home was the normal route via W Bernardo Dr, and I was fairly slow. During the ride, I occasionally rode in aero position but not for the speed so much as for the change in posture. Legs felt fine at the end, I was hungry from not eating in the morning or during the ride.

Avg speed = 14.9 mph. Total mileage = 38.8 mi
Avg power = 125 W. Weighted avg power = 151 W
Total elevation gain = 2550'
Avg heartrate = 116 bpm (Coospo)
Relative Effort = 45
Training Load = 136
Intensity = 69%

I had just a little time to relax before getting ready for my volunteer shift at the hospital. Nothing unusual happened, was kinda slow with little periods of more activity. Finished on time and rode home to give Mom a call. She was in good spirits, and it was a pleasant call. Watched some TV in the evening, fixed the flat on my Canyon rear tire, and that was the day.
