10-26-2025 Walk/Ride

Had a pretty good night's sleep and woke up around 5:30. Did the dishes and went out for an early-morning hour-long walk, in part to test how my right glute is healing up (so far, so good, no pain or discomfort). Then I got ready for a Halloween-themed bike ride with Paula, Catalin, Rob, and a couple of their friends Eric and Nicole. Rode over to the Albertsons parking lot early and got a coffee at the Starbucks. I saw Jason from the Phil's happy hour times, and we chatted a bit about cycling and biking. Then I met up with the others, Rob was late so we didn't start right at 8:30. We headed up Pomerado Rd to Twin Peaks Rd and turned left there. Rode up to Woodcreek Rd and turned right. A nice sterrt through a neighborhood, which dead-ended but had a sidewalk pass-through to Aubrey St. We took that over to Midland Rd and turned right to get to Poway Rd. A left turn there riding up to Garden Rd and thus to Sycamore Canyon Rd. It had been relatively flat to this point. I set a PR (3:34, 271 W) on this climb to the underpass, could have gone a little harder but not much. Eric came up next, and the others followed. We paused there just a bit, then rode up to Scripps-Poway Pkwy and headed west. A littlmore climbing, then a right on Danielson St, where Eric and I waited for the others. This is a nice, calm, descending road that we stayed on until turning left on Community Rd to get back to Scripps-Poway Pkwy. Down the hill to Pomerado Rd, turning left and climbing up to Stonebridge Pkwy. We turned here and took it up into the nice neighborhoods on either side. I won't detail the side streets we took, looking for Halloween decorations without much initial success. Eventually we ended up just below the water tower and climbed to the top, again trying to find decorated houses in the last little neighborhood (no luck). To the end of the cul-de-sac and back up, then we headed down, riding through a couple of neighborhoods on the way down. The last one had several houses with decent Halloween decorations. I talked a little bit with Nicole, who also swims and runs. Back to Stonebridge Pkwy and then the climbs to Pomerado Rd, where we turned left and rode to the top. We turned on Cypress Canyon Park Dr and stopped for a bathroom break at the park. Rob split at this point and rode back, while the rest of us continued on this road to Candy Rose Way, taking this nice downhill to Angelique St. From there it was the normal way down to Poway Rd via Springhurst Dr. I got out ahead of the others here and waited for them after the turn onto Pomerado Rd. We rode together to McFeron Rd, turning right and climbing, steeply for a bit, into a neighborhood I hadn't been in before. The others were tiring out, it was clear, but I was feeling fine. Rode to the top and then over to Ring Rd, then left on Celestial Rd. This turned into Arbolitos Dr, which took us to Silverset St and back down to Twin Peaks Rd. That was a nice little route that Paula found. From there, it was the normal way back to the meet-up spot. Catalin was fading, so I hung back with him to make sure all was okay until we finished the ride with the gradual descent from the hospital. I didn't stay long before riding home the normal way via Bernardo Center Dr.

Got home at the same time as Ann did, she stayed after church and participated in the work day there. Was glad I wasn't super late from her perspective, since the ride was over 3.5 hours long. Got home, had leftover sides from the BBQ place for lunch, then got to work getting ready for the Bisikleta DB meeting in the early evening. I mixed up the ingredients for the international bean dip and cleaned the kitchen a little bit. Saw that I still needed some grocery items, so I headed over to North County Produce and got pita, limes, butter, and half & half. Then I drove home and made chocolate chip cookies, overcooked the first batch a little bit. Watched a little TV to relax and baked the bean dip to heat it up. Andy showed up first, and Perse, Arnold, and Gideon eventually made it, no Ray, Jed, or Rob. We talked about the Christmas party and the DB dinner mostly. They liked the idea about the self-supported century ride with sag stops at selected riders' homes. Watched some TV after cleaning up from the meeting and then went to bed.
