05-23-2024 Run/Swim

Woke up early, had a nice wake-up call. <> Found out that Mom had gone home from the hospital the evening before, which was good news. I talked to her in the afternoon, and she sounded good. She hadn't seen her cardiologist, Dr Bangura, since last summer, but Mark is going to take her over to see him soon. I then went out for a 4-mile run around the park, felt pretty good although the stretch back up Aguamiel Rd was a chore.

Total distance = 4.24 mi
Avg pace = 7:50/mi
Elapsed time = 33:13
Avg heartrate = 151 bpm (Fitbit)

I then headed over to the WWC for a 2000 yd swim, finished in a little over 41 min. Once I got home, I had some cereal for breakfast, cleaned up the dinner dishes, then went out into the backyard and spent about an hour weeding the last bed. I'm getting close to completion for that bed, still have a fair amount of work to do, but it's starting to get to the point where we can begin laying out the drip lines and putting more plants in the beds with wood chips. Then I had a shower and rode over to Rancho Viejo to have lunch with Jerry (he paid, my turn next time). We talked about the announcement (shouldn't be a big deal for Jerry based on his role), Jerry's kids (still big into volleyball, especially Victor and Alicia's boyfriend John), and Jerry's recent job success with MCC and Golden PIP. Always a good conversation with him. In the late afternoon, we headed downtown to see Maggie Rogers in concert at Gallagher Square, the new concert venue behind center field at Petco Park. We left early enough that traffic wasn't as bad as last time, and we tailgated in the lot near the ballpark, with sandwiches, grape leaves, potato salad, and margaritas. Then we walked over to get in line for general admission to the concert venue. There was a little uncertainty about using pre-paid parking, since no lot attendant was onsite and the pay kiosk didn't have a way of recognizing the barcode on our receipt. It ended up being fine. We waited in the line for more than an hour, but much of that was sitting on an elevated curb. Some uncertainty whether they would allow the stadium seats we brought with us, but they let us through. It was a mistake to bring them, since we ended up standing right by the stage, maybe 20' away from the performers, and it was super crowded. The opening act was The Japanese House. They were okay, sound mix was poor though. Maggie and her band came onstage a little after 8:00, and they put on a really good show. She had a bigger voice than I expected, and the crowd was really enthusiastic. Several people around us would occasionally get into our space (it was crowded), but we needed to deal with it, since that's the kind of concert it was. Below is the setlist from the concert. It wrapped up around 9:40 or so, and we were home by 10:25, no traffic to have to contend with.
