05-28-2024 Swim/Run

Got up, had some breakfast, then rode over to the WWC, assuming that it was now on summer hours and opening at 7:30. Nope. So I waited until they opened at 8:00, not a big deal, but it was a little cool while waiting. Nobody else was in the pool when I started, and it was lightly used during my workout. Finished 2000 yds, normal protocol, in 41:41, a little slower than desired. Then I changed into running gear, put my backpack in a locker, and ran the 5k route that I've used before from the WWC. Here, I was content to keep a modest pace and was successful. At times during the run, I felt comfortable, not breathing hard and having a good rhythm.

Avg pace = 8:15/mi
Total distance = 3.17 mi
Elapsed time = 26:12
Avg heartrate = 149 bpm (Fitbit)

A little more food when I got home, then I skipped morning yard work for a change, even though Ann had been busy working in the yard. In the afternoon, I dug the plant out of the old garden bed and transplanted it, in two parts, into the wood chip beds. Will see how it adapts. I also set up the drip lines to the two new plants. Before showering, I filled the hand soap dispenser bottle by the kitchen sink and tightened the dispenser nozzle so it didn't wiggle around. Ann and I drove down to Balboa Park in the late afternoon for a picnic and a walk around the new native plants garden at the Museum of Natural History, before heading over to the Old Globe Theater to see Fat Ham. It's a very loose nod to Hamlet, a story about a queer black man, Juicy, who is dealing with the death of his father and the marriage of his mother to his uncle. It was at times funny and sad. The actress who played his mother was really good, he wasn't as strong an actor, in my opinion. It was an enjoyable evening, Ann had gotten the tickets last Black Friday from a promotion deal by the Old Globe.
